Digital Forensics Consulting

Scientific analysis of digital evidence that can stand up in court

Digital forensics is the disciplined examination of digital devices and data to establish what happened, when and by whom. My consulting combines forensic methodology with legal understanding — so the findings are not just technically accurate, but also usable in legal proceedings.

Overview

What is this service?

A clear, practical explanation of what the work involves.

Digital forensics consulting covers the extraction, preservation, analysis and reporting of evidence from mobile phones, computers, emails, messaging apps, social media, cloud storage and other digital sources. Every examination follows a documented process: acquisition, preservation, analysis and reporting.

Because I practise cyber law alongside forensics, the consulting is grounded in what Indian courts actually require — chain of custody, integrity checks such as hash values, and presentation consistent with Section 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.

Getting the details right

Electronic evidence is governed by Section 63 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 — the provision that replaced Section 65B of the Indian Evidence Act. Preservation and documentation decide evidentiary value.

Preserve original devices and data — do not install apps, update, or delete anything on a device that may hold evidence.

Keep charge cables, SIM cards and memory cards with the device; they may matter to the analysis.

Record who had access to the device and when, as this forms part of the chain of custody.

Screenshots alone are weaker than the underlying data; forensic analysis works from the source.

Checklist

Practical checklist

Things you can do right now — most cost nothing and protect your position.

Stop using the device once you decide to pursue forensic analysis

Note the device model, IMEI and purchase details

Document every account, app and cloud service linked to the device

Collect bills, invoices and records of device usage

List the specific questions you need the examination to answer

Seek advice before formatting, resetting or replacing any device
